1975-1980. The Neichel era.
The arrival of Jean-Louis Neichel in 1975 changed El Bulli’s way of working and brought new perspectives that were to
be consolidated over the years; in 1976 El Bulli was awarded its first Michelin star. During the winter closure months, Dr Schilling encouraged his
chef to visit great European restaurants, and negotiated a stint for Neichel to work with the great Alain Chapel, whose restaurant, La mère Charles,
held the guide’s highest accolade. Subsequent seasons’ offerings were clearly marked by these influences. |
